A Night to Remember in Leiper’s Fork: Soul, Bourbon, and Southern Vibes

By Michael Wheels Parise

Last night, my wife and I took a little detour from the usual and made our way to the storybook village of Leiper’s Fork, nestled just minutes from downtown Franklin, Tennessee. But let me tell you—even the drive is part of the magic. Winding through rolling hills, expansive green pastures, and some of the most jaw-dropping estates you’ve ever seen, the ride from Franklin is like a scenic postcard come to life.

This part of Tennessee isn’t just beautiful—it’s soulful. It’s no surprise that some of the biggest names in country music—think Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, and a long list of Music Row royalty—choose to call Leiper’s Fork home. This hidden gem is where stars retreat to stay grounded, create, and live quietly among artists, musicians, and folks who just appreciate the good life.

The Venue: Fox & Locke

We had reservations at Fox & Locke, a legendary local spot where live music, craft cocktails, and classic Southern fare come together like old friends at a porch party. Once known as Puckett’s Grocery, this place has been feeding hearts and bellies since the 1950s. Reimagined, yet still intimate and rooted in tradition, Fox & Locke has become a must-visit for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Tennessee’s music scene.

We were seated right on time and started the night off with a couple of Old Fashioneds made with local Leiper’s Fork Distillery bourbon—smooth, bold, and beautifully crafted. Every sip reminded me why Tennessee whiskey has a reputation all its own.

The Food: Comfort on a Plate

When the food hit the table, it was clear the kitchen knew what they were doing. My wife ordered the burger topped with pimento cheese—a creamy, Southern classic that melted perfectly into the juicy patty. I went old-school with the fried bologna sandwich on Texas toast—salty, crispy edges, thick cut, and pure nostalgic bliss. We also shared a plate of fresh pork rinds, still crackling from the fryer. Crispy, airy, and addictively seasoned—they were the perfect crunchy companion to our drinks.

The Music: Bob & Etta – Soul that Moves You

But the heart of the night belonged to Bob & Etta. If you haven’t heard them perform live, put it on your bucket list. They lit up the stage with raw talent, chemistry, and a sound that’s as timeless as it is powerful. Etta Britt, a name well-known in Nashville circles, brought the kind of soul that shakes you—her voice could wake the dead and make 'em dance. Bob’s guitar playing was effortless, seasoned, and smooth as the bourbon we were sipping. Together, they created a musical experience that felt more like a conversation than a concert.

The Scene: A Hidden Gem of Tennessee

What makes Leiper’s Fork so special is how unbothered it is by the fast pace of the outside world. You don’t come here to rush—you come here to experience. From its tree-lined streets to its cozy front porches, this village is a sanctuary. Whether you're listening to live music, sipping bourbon under string lights, or just strolling past art galleries and vintage shops, Leiper’s Fork gives you permission to slow down.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor: take the drive, grab a reservation at Fox & Locke, order a bourbon, and let the music take over. Nights like these don’t just entertain—they stay with you.
