Why I Became Ordained — A Comedian's Calling to Something Deeper

People always ask me, “Why did you become an ordained minister?” Especially after a 30+ year career making people laugh from New York to Las Vegas, they’re surprised when they hear I now also officiate weddings, vow renewals, and life ceremonies.

But here’s the truth: this wasn’t a random decision. This was personal.

I’ve spent most of my life connecting with people through comedy. Onstage, I’ve witnessed the power of presence, words, and timing. But offstage—especially in life’s biggest moments—what people really want is to feel seen, heard, and celebrated. And I’ve always had that in me. Becoming an ordained minister was the natural next chapter.

It wasn’t about religion. It was about responsibility. The responsibility of helping people turn moments into memories. I’ve been asked to speak at weddings, blessings, even funerals over the years—because people trusted me. Not just to be funny, but to be real. To show up for them in the most meaningful moments of their lives.

So I made it official.

I got ordained through the Universal Life Church, which allows me to legally perform ceremonies across the country. But more than that, it gave me the freedom to bring my own flavor to each event—whether that’s elegant, traditional, comedic, or completely outside the box.

Weddings, in particular, are sacred to me. I’ve seen what love can do. I’ve also seen what it looks like when people forget to celebrate it the way it deserves. That’s where I come in. As an ordained minister—and as a guy who knows how to work a room—I bring heart, humor, and legal power to every ceremony.

So why did I become ordained?

Because love deserves more than a template. Because your “I do” should be unforgettable. Because life is short, and we should celebrate the hell out of the good stuff.

Whether it’s a 10-person elopement or a 300-guest wedding with a roast twist, I’m here to make it legally binding and deeply memorable.
